Second chance: It’s the law of universe. Life always gives you a second chance!
Second chance: It’s the law of universe. Life always gives you a second chance!
This blog is based on a true story!!
My brother and I have an age difference of just 1.5 years, so we practically grew up together as friends and even our respective friends became friends with the two of us.
As my brother and I both were inclined towards pursuing a career in law or related fields, one of my brother’s close friend also decided to take up law as a career. He applied for the 5 years law course and got admission in Government Law College, Mumbai, a prestigious institute for reading law in those days.
I believe, although, he took the admission, somewhere he was nervous about his decision and may have second guessed it, but eventually he decided to move forward with the course.
The first year turned out to be difficult for him. He could not clear the exams and decided to give up on law as a career. He moved back to pursing his degree in commerce. After he got his commerce degree, he got a job and started working. I believe the peer and social pressure of ‘you need to start earning’ is so high, that he never considered going back to law and got busy with making his career in the industry he had chosen for himself.
After many year, when he had settled down in his job and even had a child, he phoned me one evening to ask me, if I was willing to speak to one of his colleague, who wanted to pursue law as a career. In the course of our conversation, we spoke about how even he could give it a try and once again get back to law, as his circumstances were different now. He was settled in his job and had a family, but there was no harm in giving it a try and he had nothing to lose.
The conversation went well for him, he called me again after a few days and informed me, that he has decided to take up the second chance and take admission in another law college in Mumbai.
He started reading law, simultaneously with his job and managing his family responsibilities, and eventually completed his 3 years (as he already had a degree in commerce he could take up the 3 years course now instead of 5 years course) law course and got the LLB degree from Mumbai university.
He called me the day he got his results, he was ecstatic. Because of his circumstances back then, he had completely given up on the idea of getting a law degree and had never thought of going back to law. However, when circumstances changed, he got a second chance and he decided to go for it and made all the efforts, which eventually yielded him the results.
According to his wife, the happiest moment for him was when they went for their daughter’s school admission interviews, where he would proudly tell the interviewer that he is a qualified (but not a practicing) lawyer.
This story is a great learning experience for me personally. At times, we all get beaten down by the circumstances and situations and give up on our dreams, but all we need to remember is, such setbacks are only temporary and our circumstances and situations change again and we do get a second chance. That is the law of universe!!
